Saferide at Salisbury University
Saferide is a student-run transportation service at Salisbury University, a Maryland university of national distinction. Located on the eastern shore of Maryland and primarily operating on weekend nights, Saferide works to promote safe travel for SU students and to eliminate tragedy that can often be associated with seeking unsafe means of getting home.
Recent Improvements
Saferide is constantly working to improve the services it provides.
In the spring 2011 semester, Saferide purchased push-to-talk phones that enable every employee that is working to hear outgoing calls for service. This has dramatically improved the time it takes for a van to respond to a student's request to be picked up, which addresses one of the primary complaints we receive: long wait times.
Future Improvements
A fifth van will be added to Saferide's fleet during the fall 2011 semester.
This fifth van, funded by the student Appropriations Board, is an exciting new addition that will allow Saferide to assist more students more quickly during the hours of operation.

Est. 1993
Saferide was established as a student-run entity in 1993 when it was chartered by the Student Government Association (SGA) of Salisbury University. Before that time, Saferide was operated by University Police.
Since then, Saferide has separated from the SGA and has become its own registered student organization (RSO).
Purpose
Saferide's mission is to provide free, safe, and confidential transportation to SU students to prevent tragedy for students and the surrounding community.
Beyond the Weekend
Saferide not only operates on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but also uses its fleet of four vans to assist other organizations and departments on campus with events and activities.
One such event to which Saferide contributes vans and manpower is Big Event. Big Event is an annual event hosted by SGA to assist community members in the city of Salisbury with laborious tasks such as painting and landscaping. More information on the Big Event and SGA is available on SGA's website.
